Only the rich matter in the UK

So.... The UK government are discussing cutting the 50% tax rate for those who earn more than £150,000 per year, while swathes of public sector workers get canned, pensions are cut, libraries are closed and state schooling supplies are cut back. I don't think there is any way they could proclaim it any louder or more clearly: THE POOR DON'T COUNT. ONLY THE RICH MATTER. Wake up Britain. This is awful.

£10 from every British pocket!

ITV just posted half-year profits of approx £240 million. The revenue / income part of that calculation was £1.0 billion for Jan - June 2011, of which £743 million came from "National Advertising Revenue" [source: Combined Interim Accounts: http://www.itvplc.com/investors/reports/ ]

The £743 million from advertising would have been paid for, directly or indirectly, by product owners. These product owners will either be spending money they have made by selling to the public, or money they have from investors, which they expect to make back from the public.

So congratulations Britain! £743 million spare pounds swilling out of your pockets into advertising in 6 months. That's about £10 per person. Good effort!

However, if I could coordinate reliably extracting £10 from the pocket of every person in Britain, I might have chosen to spend it on something else….
